Congratulations to everyone involved in Broadwindsor Community Stores, which has just been shortlisted in a national competition.
The shop is one of three in the ‘services’ category of The Plunkett Foundations’s community ownership awards to have reached the final of the competition. See more here.
The winners will be announced in July.
Beaminster Gallery Quire will kick off Broadwindsor’s Fun Weekend with a concert of West Gallery music – the tuneful and lively village church music from two centuries ago.
Broadwindsor’s west gallery has long gone, but the church will once again echo to the sounds of the ‘village band and quire’ that used to occupy it every Sunday, singing and playing with gusto!
The programme will feature a lot of music from the Hardy family manuscripts (Thomas Hardy’s antecedents were keen church musicians) such as carols, psalm tunes and anthems, along with songs and dance tunes from the early nineteenth century. Admission is free, and interval refreshments will be available.
‘Echoes from the Gallery’ is on Friday 6 June at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, Broadwindsor. The Quire will be in early 19th century costume, and members of the audience are invited (if they wish) to be similarly attired (think Jane Austen!)
The Jubilee Group is holding its Fun Days weekend starting on the evening of Friday 6 June.
Please come along and join in the fun!
