Broadwindsor Community Stores has been nominated for a ‘Rural Oscar’ in the 2017 Countryside Alliance Awards.
Now in their 13th year, the awards celebrate rural business, produce and communities. They are public-nomination led, meaning that the stores have been nominated by one or more people who value what the Countryside Alliance describes as the ‘remarkable contribution’ the shop makes to our local area.
Awards director Sarah Lee said: “The ‘Rural Oscars’ are something of a gold standard in rural business awards. The feel-good factor and pride that they bring cannot be overestimated.”
Nominations close on Monday 13 November and the Countryside Alliance is encouraging more, although it’s the quality of the nomination rather than the quantity they are looking for.
Customers can add their nomination in the Village Shop category by visiting http://www.countryside-alliance.org/campaigns/countryside-alliance-awards/
The address is Drimpton Road, Broadwindsor, Dorset, DT8 3QL.
Once nominations are closed, the Countryside Alliance will draw up a list of regional finalists and begin judging. Regional winners will be announced and invited to a reception at the Houses of Parliament next April, where they will be congratulated by parliamentarians, and the British Champion in each category will be announced, winning the coveted ‘Rural Oscar’ in their category.
