Street lights

Posted on

ImageNew street lights have gone up in Back Lane, much to the distress of people living nearby.

It’s part of a Dorset County Council scheme to improve the county’s lighting. We’re trying to get a precise map from the contractors to see where the new lights are going to be installed. A couple of years ago, company representatives said at a public meeting in Mosterton that they would consult local people.

There are plans to replace lights at Drimpton Road, Fullers, High Street, Orchard Mead, Redlands Lane, The Old Bakery, Trusthams, West Street and Yarn Barton. Interestingly, Back Lane is not mentioned on the list, which you can find by clicking this link, where there is more information about the entire project and contact details.

Work was meant to start on 1 Jan 2013 and is due to be completed on 1 Jan 2016.

Although the word ‘replacement’ is used, there are also additional lights which are being put in new positions.

The lights are much brighter, as the residents of The Square and Drimpton Road know after new lights were installed following traffic calming measures in 2007. This scheme resulted in an official complaint being lodged with the county council, which was partially upheld. Following an investigation in 2008, the council said it was always keen to learn from past mistakes.
